About the Event

Collaboration between:

Matthew Gooderson - electronic composer/ musician & senior lecturer and researcher at the University of Westminser.

Catherine Greenwood - artist & printmaker & print fellow at City & Guilds Art School in London.

Vocals by Meghan Gooderson, Flute & Piano by Catherine Greenwood.  Composition & Guitar by Matt Gooderson. Film production by Catherine Greenwood

With dance performances by

Tilliana Greenwood & Callum Cabe - contemporary ballet dancers.

The music was created using modular synthesis, graphic scores from the etching and field recordings from Gooderson and Greenwood's home studio environment including a family heirloom Bechstein piano, a variety of flutes and whistles, bamboo waving in the wind and the backdrop of birdsong in lockdown. All this was used to create a crosscurrent of patterns that echo the waveform artwork, modulated electronically and further transformed using tape loop mechanisms. The work was then scored for flute (Nick Moss), voice (Megan Gooderson) and violin (Ruth Elder) to mirror the human-digital, digital-human feedback loop – something analogous with the way technology has become inexorably interwoven with human relationships during lockdown.   Matt Gooderson is an electronic composer fascinated by the creative act, artistic process and what it means to be human in a time of rapid technological and environmental change. Gooderson is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in creativity and process at the University of Westminster in London, his music has been performed at London’s Southbank Centre and received support from BBC 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs.

Catherine Greenwood is a printmaker creating etchings photographs and video that manifest a passion for the natural world and a desire to express the energy and sense of awe and wonder it inspires. Greenwood’s art conveys a sense of place and stillness; it is expressive, environmentally conscious, contemplative and ambitious. Greenwood is a Print Fellow at City & Guilds Art School in London, she has exhibited etchings and photographs at R.A. Summer Exhibition and at the Houses of Parliament and is a new member of Wilderness Art Collective. She is also a musician and it is this musical and visual sensitivity that brings the two artists together.

Performances outside under marquee.  Limited numbers to ensure Covid Safety.
